The Painted Hall

Year 4 visited The Painted Hall at The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the first of a series of visits by pupils from Deansfield.
The ceiling of The Painted Hall is currently undergoing restoration work so the view from the floor of the hall is obscured by scaffolding. The ceiling, which was painted between 1707 and 1726, was the work of Sir James Thornhill. It is possible to book a tour to see the ceiling up close from a special observation deck and the children were eager to take advantage of the chance which may not occur again for another few hundred years!
There was even time to visit the refurbished Victorian Skittle Alley!
