Take One project

This term our whole school project, Take One, is based on the Turner painting 'The Fighting Temeraire'. The picture, painted in 1838 and exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1839, depicts HMS Temeraire, a veteran of the Battle of Trafalgar, being towed by a paddle-wheel steam tug towards its final berth in Rotherhithe in south-east London in 1838 to be broken up for scrap.

The painting, which hangs in the National Gallery in London, was bequeathed to the nation by the artist in 1851.
In 2005. it was voted the nation's favourite painting in a poll organised by BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

The children will be visiting The National Gallery to see the painting, starting with Year 6 on Thursday 13th September. The gallery is free for families to visit. Click here for The National Gallery website.

After half term all year groups will display work, based on the painting, in the Dairsie Hall.
