Deansfield is a friendly open school and the Governors work with the staff and parents in an atmosphere of co-operation to provide the best possible framework for educating our children. Governors are involved in all aspects of school life and their duties include:

  • Looking at all aspects of managing school's delegated budget ensuring good value for money.
  • Responsibility for decisions on major improvements to school premises, for example the recent improvements to the reception area and offices, and on-going repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensuring school complies with employment legislation and deals with all aspects of staff organisation and improvement.
  • Looking at all aspects of children's progress and achievements as well as new curriculum initiatives.

Hugh Lewis
Chair of Governors from November 2015. Co-Opted Governor,  initially appointed as Parent Governor September 1999.

I am a local solicitor whose three children all attended Deansfield. I am married to a member of Deansfield staff. My aim is to ensure that the Schools annual budget is applied effectively to create a happy and safe environment in which each child can access a broad and rich curriculum. I hope in doing so we will impact positively on academic achievements and promote the school’s published values.

Bob Love
Co-opted governor

I became a Governor at Deansfield over thirty years ago when my eldest daughter was in the Nursery class because I wanted to contribute to the education of all the pupils in the School.  I served as Chair of the Governing Body for several years. At various times over the years I have served on nine other Governing Bodies, five of which I chaired. I currently serve on seven Governing Bodies, four of which I chair. I have been designated by the Department for Education as a National Leader of Governance and in that capacity I am called upon to advise other Chairs of Governors.

Darren Attridge
Vice Chair, appointed November 2012. Co-Opted governor, initially appointed November 2006

I am a Qualified Accountant, with experience on having effective and accurate policies and processes in place to improve effectiveness and maintain high standards of delivery.  Being inquisitive in nature provides the ability to challenge leadership regarding school performance, progress and attainment and other reports provided to the board of governors throughout the school’s journey to being and maintaining an outstanding position. I have a specific focus on effective use of Pupil Premium.

Karen Attard
Co-Opted governor, initially appointed November 2011

I have one child currently attending Deansfield Primary School.  As a Deputy Headteacher of a primary school in Tower Hamlets with over 20 years experience, I offer the school support in evaluating achievement and the curriculum. As part of my job, I visit many other schools, including those within the federation and am keen to explore how good practice is shared between them. I have supported the school during Local Authority Reviews and enjoy being part of an active governing body.

Lorraine Watts
Co-Opted Governor, initially appointed November 2009

I have been a governor at Deansfield for many years, initially as a parent governor.  My three children attended Deansfield.  During those years I was heavily involved in school life with the Parents Association and volunteering as a class reader.  I was previously a medical PA but now I volunteer in local ventures, including also being a governor at a secondary school, giving something back to the community.

Gill Efford

I have been a local authority appointed governor at Deansfield Primary School for over 28 years. I have seen the school change and develop over this time into a thriving an innovative environment in which the children learn and develop as individuals. I am currently in a leadership role in another Eltham primary school so have an insight into the demanding, yet fulfilling and crucial role that teachers play in the lives of children.

Elected members from the teaching staff:

Karen Baldwin
Staff Governor, elected  January 2014

I have been a teacher at Deansfield for 16 years. I have worked throughout the school as a class teacher in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and was literacy leader for several years. I now lead on assessment throughout the school and am also a member of the senior leadership team. My in depth knowledge of progress and attainment across the school enables me to bring detailed information to governors to support strategic planning. As well as being a governor at Deansfield, I am also an associate governor at the primary school that my own children attended in the borough of Bromley

Elected by the parents of pupils attending the school:

Luke Saunders
Parent Governor - elected November 2017

As a father to three current Deansfield pupils, not only is the success of the school important to me personally but I’m also pleased to be able play my part in ensuring that it remains one of the best schools in our community.  With a background in business and human resources, I put my professional skills to good effect in contributing to the smooth running and oversight of school affairs.  My aim is to represent the parent’s perspective with enthusiasm, care and attention, and a strong sense of integrity

Mike Laing
Parent Governor - elected November 2017
I am father to two children at Deansfield and wanted to become a parent governor to contribute to giving all children at the school the best possible start in life. I want children to grow and thrive in a safe and inclusive environment that values them as individuals.
I am an  NHS Emergency Planning Manager, managing complex situations with competing priorities. I am not afraid to ask difficult questions and express opinions to ensure the best possible outcome.
